Job Duties and Qualifications

Internship Project: Product Portfolio Rationalization

Problem Statement:

Expansion tool technology has improved over time with upgraded features such as collapsible cones, coupling locks, j-slot pinning, and removable ball seats.  These improvements led to the creation of new expansion tool parts, but older expansion tool parts were not phased out. As such, the number of expansion tools in the portfolio has ballooned, and expansion tools remained active and called out on equipment data sheets.

A major Continuous Improvement (CI) effort for the product line would be to rationalize the number of expansion tools in use by the field locations realize efficiency gains in engineering designs and operational execution.

Objectives:

This internship placement will help develop a CI approach to the product portfolio and aid in rationalizing the portfolio to provide efficiency gains.

  • Analyze specific expansion tool sizes to identify equipment that is eligible for outdate/obsolete with replacement and propose a final expansion tool portfolio in the tool size of interest.
  • Rationalize the product portfolio by updating the current product datasheets
  • Creating new expansion tool assemblies that incorporate all upgrades into a single expansion tool may be required. 

Typical qualifications/requirements:

Typical Engineering undergraduate, preferably with Mechanical Engineering or Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering background with areas of study and/or interests that include mechanical design, structural analysis, load paths, and metallurgy.
