T505-ESG-Scientist-Physics

Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Job Description

We are looking for the right people — people who want to innovate, achieve, grow and lead. We attract and retain the best talent by investing in our employees and empowering them to develop themselves and their careers. Experience the challenges, rewards and opportunity of working for one of the world’s largest providers of products and services to the global energy industry.

Job Duties and Qualifications

We seek a talented scientist with an M.Sc. in Applied Science or Engineering. Research and/or professional experience is required. A Ph.D. degree (finished or in progress) with a strong background in Computational Science, Transport Phenomena or Computational Fluid Dynamics is a plus. Excellent problem-solving ability, leadership skills and oral and written communication skills in both English and Portuguese are required.

You will join a multidisciplinary and diverse team of scientists and engineers committed to delivering high-end computational technologies and tools for the O&G and broader energy industry.

What you must have:

  • Background in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or similar with a strong component in Computational Science and Transport Phenomena.
  • Expert knowledge of Applied Physics and Engineering: Thermodynamics, Fluid Flow (e.g., Navier-Stokes Equations), Statistical Physics and Transport Phenomena.
  • Expert knowledge of the Lattice-Boltzmann Method for simulation of single- and multi-phase flows.
  • Expert knowledge of computational modelling and simulation of heat transfer problems.
  • Excellent ability to develop scientific code in one or more programming languages (e.g., C/C++, Python, Matlab).

What is nice to have:

  • Knowledge of porous media flow. It is a big plus if you have already implemented Lattice-Boltzmann methods to simulate multi-phase fluid flow in porous media.
  • Knowledge of heat transfer and fluid flow in reservoir formation and wellbores.
  • Knowledge of scientific computing (e.g., linear and nonlinear solvers, numerical methods, etc.).
  • Knowledge of parallel computing (e.g., CUDA, MPI).
  • Familiarity with computational mathematics (e.g., linear algebra, calculus, matrix decompositions, etc.).
  • Knowledge of other PDE discretization methods, such as Finite Element, or Finite Volume Methods.
  • Familiarity with open-source scientific computing libraries (e.g., HYPRE, BOOST++, PETSC, DUNE, LAPACK, etc.).
  • Familiarity with CMake, Makefiles, and other tools for multi-platform code compilation.
