The Pump Engineer works in a dynamic environment supporting both new product development and existing products for high pressure pumps used in oil field services. Incumbents to the role would have a strong mechanical engineering background in plunger pump components or assemblies.  The pump engineer will be involved with complex design activities for high pressure plunger pumps including development, testing, interpreting operating data,  and interfacing with both manufacturing and operations.

Job Scope:

  • Develop innovative pumping solutions for demanding upstream oil & gas applications, both offshore and onshore. 
  • Support existing pump product line by revising and/or modifying to meet new customer requirements.
  • Develop individual pump components, such as valves, seats, plungers, power train components, and/or sensors to drive performance, reliability, and safety metrics.
  • Designs must meet high performance, reliability, and safety standards under challenging environmental conditions  
  • Utilize statistical techniques and predictive modeling to identify and drive design improvements based on operating data

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support new and existing products through full product lifecycle including concept generation, development, testing, failure analysis, and technical support/troubleshooting of high-pressure plunger pumps
  • Lead and assist analytical evaluation of high-pressure plunger pump designs for structural integrity, fluid flow capability and exposure to vibration, corrosion, and erosion.
  • Collect and analyzes lab and field data to identify trends and relationships.
  • Prepare and presents research results to engineers, managers, and clients.
  • Able to draft and interpret design specifications, drawings, and bill of materials for new product development
  • Review and assess appropriate standards, regulations, and specifications for testing and reliability analysis activities
  • Ensure all components are designed for optimized manufacturing, maintenance, and operations utilizing a system approach that simultaneously considers all design goals and constraints
  • Work both individually, within pump team, and across other engineering disciplines to design new pump components and assemblies 

Candidate Qualifications

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline required to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Completion of a graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline – Preferred
  • Ability to perform CFD/ structural Finite Element Analysis – Preferred
