Tax Specialist

Job Duties

  • Under general supervision, supports tax reporting with a core understanding of prevailing statutory authority and it's applicability to financial (general ledger) data.
  • Responsible for activities supporting financial close process, account reconciliations and supporting financial pronouncement and tax technical research, as applicable.
  • Reviews functions of more junior staff and prepares technical memoranda for Tax Managers in support of tax technical positions taken in financial statements and statutory tax filings.
  • May assist with maintenance of internal controls and audit defense for tax positions taken in filings. In addition to their designated area of strength, they should be generally comfortable with fundamentals across the group in which they serve.
  • Requires an undergraduate degree in Accounting or related field and 5 years related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and competency.
  •  Applicable professional designation preferred. Excellent personal communications skills and ability to work in team environment a must.

Key Responsibilities

  • US Tax Compliance & Reporting
    • Prepare and review US federal and state income tax returns and related workpapers.
    • Assist in quarterly and annual tax provision calculations (ASC 740) and disclosures.
    • Support IRS and state audits through preparation of necessary documentation and responses.
  • Withholding Tax (WHT) Compliance
    • Ensure timely and accurate compliance with withholding tax regulations
    • Coordinate with internal teams and vendors for WHT-related reporting and remittances.
  • Tax Accounting
    • Perform monthly and quarterly tax account reconciliations.
    • Assist in deferred tax computations, FIN48 reserves, and other tax-related adjustments in financials.
    • Work closely with the global tax accounting team to ensure integrity of tax-related financial data.
  • Tax Advisory & Planning
    • Support transaction structuring, intercompany pricing, and other advisory projects.
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide tax guidance on operational matters.
  • Litigation & Controversy
    • Assist in compiling documentation for tax litigation and appeals.
    • Coordinate with legal and external advisors on open audits and notices.
  • Technology & Process Improvement
    • Utilize SAP and other tax tools (e.g., OneSource, Excel) for data extraction, analysis, and reporting.
    • Support process automation and standardization initiatives across tax functions.

Education: Chartered Accountant (CA)

Experience:

  • 6 to 8 years of relevant experience in direct taxation, preferably in Industry or Big 4 or MNC captive/shared services environment.
  • Hands-on experience in tax compliance, reporting, and accounting for US entities.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of US tax laws, GAAP/IFRS, and ASC 740.
  • Proficiency in SAP, Microsoft Excel, and tax reporting tools.
  • Experience with OneSource, Alteryx, or Power BI is a plus.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a global, matrixed organization.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to meeting deadlines.
