Field Geomechanics, II

Macaé, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Job Description

We are looking for the right people — people who want to innovate, achieve, grow and lead. We attract and retain the best talent by investing in our employees and empowering them to develop themselves and their careers. Experience the challenges, rewards and opportunity of working for one of the world’s largest providers of products and services to the global energy industry.

Job Duties and Qualifications

We are seeking a highly skilled Geo-Mechanics Engineer to provide expertise in rock mechanics, soil stability, and geotechnical analysis. The ideal candidate will support engineering projects by evaluating subsurface conditions, conducting numerical modeling, and advising on ground stability solutions. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the structural integrity and safety of projects in industries such as oil & gas, mining, and civil engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct geomechanical modeling and analysis to assess stress, strain, and failure risks in subsurface formations.
  • Analyze rock and soil properties to evaluate stability, deformation, and integrity under various environmental and operational conditions.
  • Utilize finite element analysis (FEA) and numerical modeling tools to simulate geo-mechanical behavior.
  • Perform borehole stability assessments, fracture mechanics analysis, and fault reactivation studies.
  • Support drilling, reservoir engineering, and construction teams by providing insights into geomechanical risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Develop and interpret wellbore stability models, pore pressure predictions, and sand production assessments in oil & gas applications.
  • Work closely with geologists, geophysicists, and engineers to integrate geomechanical data into broader project workflows.
  • Conduct field investigations, laboratory testing, and data analysis to enhance project understanding.
  • Prepare technical reports and recommendations for project stakeholders and clients.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices (e.g., API, ASTM, ISO).

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geomechanics, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related field.
    • 2 -5 years of relevant experience in geomechanics, rock mechanics, or geotechnical engineering.
    • Strong understanding of stress-strain behavior of rocks and soils, fluid interactions, and failure mechanisms.
    • Proficiency in geomechanical modeling software (e.g., FLAC, Abaqus, Plaxis, Rocscience, ELFEN, etc.).
    • Experience with wellbore stability, reservoir geomechanics, hydraulic fracturing, and/or slope stability analysis.
    • Ability to interpret borehole logs, seismic data, and laboratory test results.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
    • Familiarity with industry codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience in oil & gas drilling geomechanics, mining geotechnical design, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
    • Knowledge of machine learning applications in geomechanics.
    • Experience with Python, MATLAB, or other programming languages for data analysis and automation.
