Job Duties
- Provide on-site supervision of Measurement-While Drilling (MWD), Logging-While Drilling (LWD), and Directional Drilling (DD) operations under general supervision.
- Oversee tool preparation, data acquisition, log generation, quality control, and service delivery to customers.
- Understand and apply principles of Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA) selection and DD performance.
- Ensure BHAs are assembled according to plan, including:
- Correct make-up torque
- Proper doping
- Appropriate handling procedures
- Ensure all customer data is accurate, timely, and meets the highest service quality standards.
- Provide technical consultation and advice to customers using:
- DD software
- Well path projections
- Well profile plots
- Survey calculations
- Directional survey data in accordance with client procedures
- Test all tools and equipment before, during, and after each job.
- Identify and resolve operational issues to prevent or minimize service disruptions.
- Collaborate with RDC engineers to complete required documentation and reporting, including:
- Service vouchers
- Lost/damaged equipment reports
- Radiation site surveys
- End of Job Customer Survey (EJCS) reports
- First Alert Database (FAD)
- Correction, Prevention and Improvement (CPI) documentation
- Interface with the Remote Drilling Coordinator (RDC) and/or Directional Driller (DD) to:
- Ensure BHA compatibility
- Verify operating parameters are within specifications
- Apply correct toolface references
- Maintain toolface control during tangent and build sections of the well
- Assist the RDC with:
- Daily DD reports
- BHA performance reports for each run
- Service tickets and required paperwork
- Well data spreadsheets
- Lessons learned and best practices documentation
- Maintain records of all DD equipment on site, including dimensional data and equipment condition.
- Ensure equipment is properly laid out after use and prepared for backload according to company procedures.
- Participate in continuous performance improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Possess an undergraduate degree in a STEM discipline.
- Complete basic M/LWD and DD training programs.
- Have a minimum of one year of experience in LWD and DD operations, preferably including experience as a Field Service Specialist I (FSS I).
- Possess or be able to obtain all required onshore and offshore safety certifications.
- Perform duties in a field-based drilling environment while maintaining high operational and safety standards.
