Gauge Lab Technician

Job Duties

  • Under general supervision, provides technical analysis support in the area of dimensional gauges and measurement equipment.
  • Performs calibration of various operations and activities using precise equipment.
  • Manage gauge out of tolerance program to mitigate and contain risks to organization.
  • Assures financial goals are achieved, including revenue targets and cost control.
  • Audits gauge records periodically and make corrections as needed to insure gauge record accuracy, participate in audits of the gauge crib for safety, good housekeeping, lost gauges, issued gauges, correct storage location, and condition of gauges, etc.
  • Acts as a technical liaison with internal customers, including development of measurement plans based on customer requirements, providing technical interpretation of measurement results and specification, and providing general consultation on metrology issues.
  • Responsible for calibration of magnetic particle, CMM, heat treat furnaces, dead weight testers, gauge block comparator and penetrant testing equipment and initiating and processing calibration and non- conformance reports.
  • Performs complex repair and calibration of test equipment and precision measuring instruments. 

Qualifications

  • Skills typically acquired through completion of high school or equivalent and a minimum of three years of experience in Gauge Calibration and Repair which includes experience in minor and major repair of dimensional measurement equipment.
  • Knowledge includes basic mathmatics, strong computer skills, problem solving, organization, repair and calibration skills, above average gauge and measurement system undestanding, print dimension understanding, and overall technological understanding of metrology systems required.
  • Capable of interpreting federal specifications and manufacture's documents and product calibration procedures as directed by the Calibration Laboratory Management.
  • Capable of measuring and calculating calibration measurement uncertainties.
  • Capable of performing calibration round robin studies as directed by the Calibration Laboratory Management.
  • Capable of performing calibration services on premium thread connections including but not limited to API, OECO and Nippon Steel.
  • Capable of calibrating precision gauge block sets using a gauge block comparator.
  • Capable of demonstrating the traceability of a standard to NIST standard or physical constant use in the calibration of a piece of equipment.
  • Capable of performing operations required in the support of the calibration infrastructure such as software maintenance and maintain the physical environment of the calibration lab.

Work Shift

Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm
