About the Role

The Senior Mechanical Technician – Test Systems serves as a key contributor within the Manufacturing Test Lab (MTL), supporting the development, qualification, and service quality of Sperry’s business-critical platforms including iCruise, SpecStar, QuantaStar, and related technologies.

Working under general direction, this role leads complex mechanical test setups, prototype assembly, troubleshooting, and validation activities. The position supports both new product development and ongoing product improvement initiatives by ensuring test systems and prototype tools are built, validated, and documented to the highest standards of reliability and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead planning and execution of mechanical testing for materials, components, subassemblies, and downhole tools.
  • Debug complex test setups and troubleshoot mechanical systems and test equipment.
  • Assemble prototype tools and components for development and validation programs.
  • Document detailed test procedures, assembly processes, observations, and results.
  • Support release of new tool designs into manufacturing by collaborating with Engineering and Production teams.
  • Acquire and manage prototype components and coordinate with manufacturing for special builds.
  • Apply structured reliability, HSE, and quality standards throughout testing and assembly processes.
  • Assist in investigation and resolution of field performance issues.
  • Provide hands-on mechanical support for development and service quality initiatives.
  • Occasionally travel to offsite locations to assemble, test, repair, or operate equipment.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Mechanical Technology, Engineering Technology, or related technical discipline preferred.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in a technician role (or 5+ years in mechanical manufacturing, test lab, or field operations environments).
  • Strong experience with mechanical assembly, precision tooling, and prototype builds.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical systems and test setups.
  • Experience working in high-reliability or downhole tool environments preferred.
  • Strong documentation and technical reporting skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams.
