Overview

Under general supervision, provides technical assistance and analysis during planning and execution of Product Service Line (PSL) operations for customers, maintaining the highest levels of professionalism, safety and service quality. Works on value add projects through collaboration with both internal and external customers based on technical knowledge and developments to deliver solutions to meet their requirements and Halliburton's commercial expectations, considering both the price of the solution to the customer as well as the total cost to Halliburton to deliver it. Applies engineering, mechanical and geological principles to articulate more complex data interpretations to customers from proprietary software and collaborates with clients through the entire well cycle from drilling to completion scenarios independently. Actively completes training and competency assignments to pursue growth and development within the PSL career path and Halliburton organization. Fosters teamwork among all personnel involved in the performance of work activities, and supports the development of less experienced operators and/or technical personnel. Shares learning and advertises successes by writing, publishing and presenting case histories and industry papers (for example, Society of Petroleum Engineers-SPE).

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Controls Lead to architect, develop, and deliver advanced control systems that support high-reliability offshore and industrial operations. This role is critical to ongoing major commitments and upcoming global deployments.
The ideal candidate has designed and implemented complex PLC-based control systems, understands system integration at scale, and has led small engineering teams through full project lifecycle execution. This person will drive architecture decisions, manage development workflows, and ensure delivery of robust, safe, and compliant control systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture, design, and development of large-scale control systems using PLCs and related automation technologies.
  • Manage and mentor a small team of controls, software, and electrical engineers, fostering technical excellence and delivery accountability.
  • Oversee system integration activities, including hardware, software, networking, safety systems, and instrumentation.
  • Collaborate with product management, mechanical/electrical engineering, and operations teams to translate requirements into validated control strategies.
  • Drive technical decisions on PLC platforms (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, ABB, Schneider, Beckhoff).
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards (IEC, DNV, SIL/SIS, offshore regulatory requirements).
  • Produce and review engineering deliverables such as:
    • System architecture documentation including electrical P&IDs
    • Network design, I/O lists, logic diagrams
    • Cause & effect matrices
    • Test plans, FAT/SAT, acceptance documentation
  • Troubleshoot complex system behavior and lead root-cause investigations for field issues.
  • Support commissioning activities for offshore or critical installations as needed.
  • Ensure design scalability, reliability, maintainability, and cybersecurity considerations are embedded in all controls solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, Controls/Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or related technical field.
  • 8+ years of experience in controls engineering or automation, with a strong focus on PLC-based system design.
  • Proven experience architecting multi-module, distributed, or safety-critical control systems.
  • Experience leading or supervising small engineering teams.
  • Strong knowledge of one or more key PLC platforms:
    • Siemens TIA Portal, Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, ABB, Schneider, Beckhoff, or similar.
  • Experience with system safety design: IEC 61508, IEC 61131-3, functional safety (SIL).
  • Familiarity with offshore or harsh-environment operational constraints.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and technical communication skills.

Candidates exceeding minimum requirements may be considered for higher-level positions based on experience, additional qualifications, and business needs.
