Job Duties and Qualifications

Reports to Director - Safety & HSE Risk Management. Assists in the development and implementation of Company Explosives Safety Program with the input, assistance and support of the appropriate product service line(s) (PSL) management. Ensures that explosive safety activities are being performed according to approved policies, procedures and applicable requirements, while providing adequate protection of public health and safety. May interfaces with Manufacturing & Technology, Procurement & Materials, and operations personnel at all organizational levels, acting as an advisor and to a lesser extent as an auditor and instructor. The position also interfaces with vendors of materials provided to the company and running background checks. The position works closely with PSL management on obtaining necessary licenses and permits, incident review and response, development of training programs and associated materials. Other responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: ensuring that training and annual retraining as required by licenses(s) is provided, monitoring regulatory activities, ensuring that explosive materials are securely stored or transported and coordinating disposal of waste explosive material. Record-keeping duties, including but not limited to: all applicable explosives regulations, copies of licenses, inspection reports, audits, background checks, magazine key and lock lists, approved vendors, approved buyers and all training records and materials. The position may also be responsible for conducting internal audits of activities involving explosive materials, and other tasks as designated in the applicable regulation s and Company license(s). Maintains good working knowledge of existing applicable regulations and license requirements, as well as proposed changes in regulations and requirements. Should have a good understanding of Company operations. Position works under general supervision, and may provide technical leadership to other less experienced personnel. Required activities also may include: report writing, providing technical advice to operations and shared services personnel, researching and interpreting standards and codes, implementing plans, policies and procedures and conducting training. Position requires computer skills, written and oral communication skills. Requires college degree, specialized technical training and three to six (3-6) years technical and practical experience.
