Software Engineer- Automation Testing/ QA

Job Duties and Qualifications

Under general supervision, leveraging competencies in the technical software testing and development processes, this position will execute and evaluate software tests and learn the automated test tools. Support the technologies from a testing, usability, and trouble-shooting perspective. Execute on test strategies adopted by the team and used in the automated regression testing of these systems. Assists with secure architecture design reviews and supports preparing applications for security testing. Ensures security vulnerabilities have been mitigated. Documents bugs/errors/issues with system applications. Usually works on projects of moderate scope and complexity. Assists in the development of testing assignments and schedules. May require instruction and guidance during certain phases of application systems analysis. Requires completion of an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Geo-science, Petroleum Engineering or similar discipline, and 2+ years of related experience, including software testing and/or development experience. Completion of a masters degree is preferred. Completion of a masters degree is preferred.

We are seeking a talented QA automation engineer to join the Landmark Product Line within Halliburton. The successful individual will design testing procedures for our software applications for our Neftex product suite and will sit within a diverse development team. In this role you will be responsible for analyzing the functionality of applications and designing automated tests to validate their performance. You will also be required to identify bugs, install databases, and collaborate with the software design team. Successful candidates will be evidently enthusiastic and motivated people who we can train up in our processes, and ultimately play a key role in owning and communicating their quality assurance initiatives across both Product Management, Website Designers, and customers.   

To ensure success as a QA automation engineer, you should have advanced programming skills, a keen eye for detail, and excellent project management skills. A skilled QA automation engineer can design and write efficient test procedures for every software application. 

Responsibilities:

  • Meeting with the software design team to discuss verification protocols.  
  • Identifying software application weaknesses and target areas.  
  • Sketching out ideas for automated software test procedures.  
  • Reviewing software bug reports and highlighting problem areas.  
  • Writing automation scripts and implementing software applications.  
  • Designing and installing software databases.  
  • Troubleshooting automation software and finalizing system procedures.  
  • Identifying quality issues and creating test reports.  
  • Collaborating with the design team to solve application faults. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Requirements: 

  • Requires completion of an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Geo-science, Petroleum Engineering or similar discipline, and 2+ years of related experience, including software testing and/or development experience   
  • Previous experience working as a QA automation engineer.  
  • Advanced programming skills including automation systems and databases.  
  • Familiarity with programming script languages including Java and VBScript.  
  • Excellent analytical skills.  
  • Detailed knowledge of application functions, bug fixing, and testing protocols.  
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.  
  • Strong attention to detail.  
  • Good project management skills.  
  • Candidates having qualifications that exceed the minimum job requirements will receive consideration for higher-level roles give (1) their experience, (2) additional job requirements, and/or (3) business needs.
