Wells Operation Manager

Job Duties

Under general autonomy and wide scope:

  • The Well Engineering Manager functions as a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME), typically at the Country level staying abreast of current industry and PSL technological developments. 2
  • This position is accountable for the implementation of Engineering processes with respect to quality and integrity assurance.
  • Reviews and maintains HMS processes to ensure the management system remains up-to-date with industry best practices.
  • Responsible for approval of Well Designs and/or Programs and ensures these are in compliance with contracts, as well as, the Company's HMS policies & procedures.
  • Ensures all Operational Activities are adequately evaluated and a full Risk Matrix table with Mitigation plans is completed.
  • Responsible for resolving critical engineering/operational issues, identifying chronic problems and proposing solutions, ensuring optimum technical solutions for field project development, and compliance with all Project/Contract metrics.
  • Coordinates engineering programs/procedures and practices among different Projects and/or Rigs.
  • Supports development of new technology and champions the application and deployment of the same.
  • Leads technical presentations to client.
  • Provides work direction and mentorship on a regular basis to Engineers.
  • Responsible for the training & development of Well Engineers and their competency development.
  • Operates with significant level of technical and/or operational independence in all assigned areas.

Additional Role Responsibilities:

(1)    Ability and flexibility to travel to Iraq both domestically and internationally typically 28/28 days per business required. 
(2)    Provides Managership and guidance to both planning and operational teams.  
(3)    Demonstrates support of the management system 
(4)    Manages all well planning, design and engineering activities associated with drilling, completions and abandonment operations. 
(5)    Ensures the team properly consider design options, assess risks and validate costs and work closely with other Wells/technical teams, legislative bodes and service providers at various stages of the well planning process to ensure viability of proposals.  
(6)    Manages well operations to effectively control the risk, technical execution, cost control and ensures compliance with policies and procedures.  
(7)    Manages operational deviations from Company policy with suitable adherence to the risk assessment process. 
(8)    Manages platform rig engineering in the planning and execution of rig maintenance, rig modifications, recertification and upgrades. 
(9)    Ensures peer reviews, risk assessments, engineering/planning reviews, etc. are undertaken. 
(10)    Sets performance targets and implements performance measurement and improvement processes. 
(11)    Ensures that the lessons learned system is utilized to record lessons and used to transfer lessons into detail well planning to complete the full learning cycle. 

Qualifications

Requires an undergraduate degree in STEM, preferably in Petroleum or Mechanical Engineering, and 12+ years experience as a Well Engineer with knowledge of drilling, completions, intervention operations and techniques. Demonstrated experience in leading or supervising an engineering team. Must have a Well Control certificate.


Preferred Experience:
Minimum of 15-years relevant experience in their discipline or in an operations environment within the oil & gas industry.
