Senior Field Service Specialist - DD

Job Duties

  • Under broad direction, provides on-site supervision of the Measurement-While Drilling (MWD)/Logging-While Drilling (LWD) and Directional Drilling (DD) process, including tool preparations, data acquisition, log generation and quality control, projections of the well path to predetermined target coordinates, and delivery of services to the customer.
  • Understands principles of Bottom Hole assembly (BHA) selection and aspects of DD performance and ensures that BHA's are assembled as planned including correct make-up torque, doping and handling.
  • Ensures that all data presented to the customer is accurate, timely, and meets the highest possible service quality standard.
  • Provides technical consultation and advice to customers using LWD and DD software, well path projections, well profile plots, survey calculations, and accurate directional survey data provided according to the clients surveying procedures.
  • Advises on mud hydraulics, Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA) planning, formation evaluation, drilling tendencies, the mud system and BHA dynamics, log generation, basic geo-steering services, and data quality.
  • Properly tests all tools and equipment before, during and after each job.
  • Identifies and corrects operational problems to prevent or minimize service impact.
  • Accurately completes all required forms, databases, and reports (i.e. service vouchers, lost/damaged equipment, radiation site survey, End of Job Customer Survey (EJCS) report, First Alert Database (FAD)/Correction, Prevention and Improvement (CPI).
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives as required.
  • Ensures all equipment, personnel and resources needed to perform the service is available and that equipment is laid out after use in accordance with company procedures and manifested for backload at the end of the job.
  • Maintains records of all DD equipment at well site including dimensional data and condition.
  • Ensures a daily M/LWD and DD report is completed and copied to client's onsite and offsite drilling teams and to the Service coordinator, and where applicable, may be responsible for submitting an accurate daily cost for the M/LWD and DD services.
  • Ensures BHA compatibility, planned operating parameters are within specification, and correct toolface references are applied.
  • Serves as the lead engineer on most jobs.
  • Fosters teamwork and assists in the training and development and the performance evaluation of onsite personnel.
  • Requires completion of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • An undergraduate degree in a STEM discipline is required.
  • Requires completion of the basic M/LWD and DD training programs, and a minimum of two years of experience in LWD and DD field operations, preferably including experience as a FSS, II.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain any relevant on or offshore safety certificates.
