We are looking for the right people — people who want to innovate, achieve, grow and lead. We attract and retain the best talent by investing in our employees and empowering them to develop themselves and their careers. Experience the challenges, rewards and opportunity of working for one of the world’s largest providers of products and services to the global energy industry.
About Wireline and Perforating
Wireline & Perforating offers formation evaluation, cased-hole logging, and precisionperforating services that support production and reservoir management. Our technologies deliver accurate subsurface data and efficient well access to help customers make confident decisions throughout the well lifecycle.
About the Role
Under broad direction, the Senior R&D Mechanical Engineer leads the design, development, and validation of advanced mechanical systems and components for Halliburton’s perforating technologies. This role functions as both a technical leader and project mentor, guiding design teams, conducting detailed performance analyses, and ensuring adherence to Halliburton’s reliability, quality, and HSE standards.
The Senior Engineer collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams — including materials science, ballistics, electronics, and manufacturing — to deliver innovative, reliable, and commercially viable solutions that reinforce Halliburton’s technical leadership in the wireline and perforating domain.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design and development projects for perforating system hardware from concept through qualification and commercialization.
- Apply advanced engineering analysis, modeling, and simulation to ensure mechanical integrity under extreme downhole conditions.
- Conduct and oversee design reviews, tolerance analysis, testing protocols, and failure investigations to improve product reliability.
- Define and document engineering requirements, test plans, and validation reports using statistical and reliability-based methods.
- Develop and execute complex test plans, performing pre-test reviews, tool layouts, and safety assessments in collaboration with the testing team.
- Safely conduct ballistic, functional, mechanical, pressure, and temperature testing of perforating tools in controlled environments.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, supply chain, and operations to optimize designs for manufacturability, cost efficiency, and field performance.
- Provide technical mentorship to engineers on design methodologies, reliability testing, and safe testing practices.
- Review and apply relevant standards, regulations, and specifications for design validation and reliability analysis.
- Contribute to Halliburton’s Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio through innovative designs and patentable solutions.
- Interface with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to align design intent with operational needs and performance goals.
- Represent Halliburton in technical conferences and industry forums, promoting innovation and knowledge sharing.
- Foster a collaborative and safety-focused team environment, maintaining open communication across engineering and operational groups.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline required.
- Minimum four (4) years of related R&D or product design experience; candidates with a Master’s or Doctorate and two (2) or more years of relevant experience will also be considered.
- Proven expertise in mechanical system design, analysis, and validation, preferably within downhole, high-pressure, or high-temperature environments.
- Proficiency with CAD and simulation software (e.g., SolidWorks, ANSYS, or equivalent) and experience with mechanical testing instrumentation.
- Strong understanding of reliability engineering, materials performance, and integrated system design.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary projects, prioritize effectively, and deliver high-quality results on schedule.
- Excellent technical communication, documentation, and presentation skills.
- Preferred: Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility is advantageous.
- Preferred: Experience with plastic injection molding design and manufacturing methods is beneficial.
Candidates who possess qualifications exceeding the minimum job requirements will be considered for higher-level positions based on their experience, demonstrated capabilities, and current business needs. Depending on education, experience, and performance alignment, candidates may be eligible for advancement opportunities within the R&D Engineering career path, including positions ranging from Senior R&D Mechanical Engineer to Principal R&D Mechanical Engineer and R&D Mechanical Engineer Advisor.
